How to Buy Ethereum on Gemini
As you may know, Gemini has been struggling with paying out its Gemini Earn customers, though the regular platform still works, and you can still buy ETH and other digital assets on the exchange.
Nevertheless, it’s a good idea to research the platform before you use the exchange.
If you are ready to go, here is how to buy Ethereum on Gemini.
A Step-By-Step Guide on How to Buy Ethereum on Gemini
1. Register an Account and Verify Your Identity
Gemini registration includes identity verification: Make sure you use your real name as you sign up for the exchange since you have to submit ID documents in the next steps.
Once your account is activated, you will be asked for your mobile number to enable 2FA. Upon signing in, you can start the verification process by entering your address and date of birth.
The last step is submitting a photo ID. You can use the photo page of your passport, both sides of your driver’s license, or your national ID.
Click “Get secure link” to start. Gemini will send the link to your phone. Once you click it, you can upload the pictures and complete the process.
2. Add a Payment Method
Now, we will add a payment method to buy ETH. On the top-right, you will see the “Account” tab. Click it and go to Payment Methods.
You can add a debit card or a bank account to buy crypto on the platform. If you add a bank account, you can transfer funds to Gemini for free. However, the process may take up to five days.
With a debit card, you don’t have to wait for funds to arrive because the purchases are instant. Of course, the convenience costs quite a lot as you have to pay a separate fee of around 5%.
Also, keep in mind that you can’t withdraw from debit cards. For withdrawals, you must add a bank account.
Just hit “Add” to start.
Select the currency of your debit card: you have several options.
You will need a billing address for the card.
Complete and verify the billing address.
Finally, fill in the name, card number, expiry date, and security code sections.
Gemini executes two micropurchases around 1-2 USD to ensure everything works smoothly. Don’t worry; the amount will be returned to you upon a successful test transaction.
3. Navigate to the Relevant Screen to Buy
Go to the “Market” page and search for ETH.
Select “View Details.”
The rest is simple: You can make a single purchase or issue a recurring order through the “How often” column. Type the amount you want and choose how you want to pay for the order. When you hit “Review Order,” Gemini displays all transaction details, including the fees. You can go ahead and select “Confirm” to continue with your purchase.
This is the easiest way to buy ETH on Gemini. If you have a bit more experience, you can go to the Activetrader interface by clicking “Switch to ActiveTrader.” That will take you to the Gemini spot market, where you can place different order types.
